HELFO refunds

Helfo

Children and adolecents under the age of 20, as well as some adults, can receive support for orthodontic treatment. In order for your child to be entitled to reimbursement, there must be a referral to orthodontic treatment from a dental hygienist or dentist. The right to reimbursement applies to children and young people up to and including the year you turn 20. As of today, between 40-100% support is provided by Helfo, depending on how great the need is. The reimbursement Helfo provides is based on public tariffs set by the Ministry of Health and Care Services.

The reimbursement groups are divided into three:

Group A: Very great need. 100 percent coverage according to the fee rates

Group B: Great need. 75 per cent coverage according to the fee rates (90 per cent for sibling moderation)

Group C: Clear need. 40 per cent coverage according to the fee rates (60 per cent for sibling moderation). NOTE: This group can be changed from 2020. Excerpts from the State Budget 2019:

Sibling moderation: If more siblings in the family need orthodontic treatment, the support will increase from child number two (see above within the different groups). The orthodontist will inform you about this at the consultation.

In Norway, there is free pricing of all dental services - including orthodontic treatment. The public tariffs are not regulated in line with the price increase elsewhere in society. Therefore, both public and private orthodontists have higher prices than the rates set by the Ministry of Health and Care Services. A deposit is paid; this corresponds to the price difference between the fee rate set by the authorities and the price the dentist has set for a treatment.

We have direct settlement with Helfo, you only need to pay your deductible to us. You will receive a cost estimate for the treatment at the consultation, before any treatment is started.
